On Monday, White House press secretary Jen Psaki dismissed a question from Peter Doocy of Fox News on where the American workerwho lost their jobs due to Joe Biden’s executive order shutting down the Keystone XL pipeline would get the promised “green jobs” by giving a snarky response as callous and out of touch as anything uttered by Marie Antoinette.
“Well, I’d certainly welcome you to present your data of all the thousands and thousands of people who won’t be getting a green job,” Psaki answered. “Maybe next time you’re here you can present that.“
In Psaki’s world, government officials are not to be questioned about the veracity of their claims or held accountable for failure to fulfill empty promises.
At least 11,000 American workers have already lost their jobs due to Biden’s executive order shutting down the Keystone XL pipeline. Thousands more workers in supporting industries will also lose their jobs as the the effects of Biden’s order trickles through the US economy.
Psaki’s dismissive response was pure deflection as she is fully aware, or should be if she had any cognitive abilities, that none of these now unemployed workers will be getting any new “green jobs.” Even if the Democrat’s energy policies were miraculously create thousands of well paying jobs, which is highly doubtful, they would not appear until five to ten years into the future. This is hardly comforting to families who have mortgage payments due next month and now have to scramble to replace lost incomes.
Secondly, the skill set for any of these future new jobs would be entirely different from that of the jobs now being destroyed. Any new employment generated in the “green energy” sector would undoubtedly go completely different set of workers than those who are now facing a bleak future.
In addition, the potential future green jobs will not undo the damage to the local economies inflicted by Biden’s imperious executive order. The many hotels, restaurants, barbers, and other mainstays of the local economy will find no solace in the formation of new jobs elsewhere in the country.
The Democrat’s constant retort that Americans who lose their jobs due to government interference in the economy can get equivalent jobs through retraining is reflective of a mindset that treats workers and interchangeable cogs rather than as individuals possessing unique sets of skills acquired over years of hard work.
In the view of Democrats, individual lives and welfare must necessarily be sacrificed to achieve progress toward the glorious future that can only be reached by controlling hand of the state. They misconstrue the proper role of government as one that guides the lives of its subjects rather than one that protects the liberties and security of its citizens. The path being pursued by Biden and the Democrats leads only to despotism, reducing free men to slaves of the state.
